REFORMATION YEARS
Paul Cripple recalls viewing Reagan Youth as a failure, mainly due to the declining interest during the band's later years (during Ronald Reagan's second term) and the difficult circumstances surrounding their second album, VOLUME II, which affected him for many years. Fifteen years later, in 2006, after returning to the Lower East Side in New York City, he met punk rockers who organized a show for Reagan Youth, which took place at what was known as the Woodstock of Hardcore. Paul reluctantly agreed, thinking it would be a one-time event. However, he soon found himself facing criticism, as if he had been a band member for a while or had originally played guitar. To address this, he recruited Al Pike and Johnny Aztec from the '80s for live performances. They played many tour dates from 2006 until 2009, but they were not keen on performing the songs in the manner that Dave Insurgent envisioned.
Paul Cripple established a dependable rhythm section, eventually collaborating with Tibbie X on bass, who has been playing alongside him for over ten years. Together, they put out a very few recordings and toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, despite experiencing different lineup changes in terms of singers and drummers.
Throughout this period, Paul composed songs for a concluding album that honors the life and influence of his late friend and fellow musician, Dave Insurgent. Regrettably, most of the singers were more focused on voicing their grievances rather than offering substantial input.
Additionally, Paul performed alongside vocalist Beatrice Demesier in the band DUST ANGEL and subsequently launched their side project called "MADAME ST. BEATRICE."
In 2023, Paul Bakija started recording Volume Three with singer Beatrice Demesier and drummer Mark Zapata. This concept album, which explores the life and times of Dave Insurgent, was finished in 2024 while Paul was receiving hospice care at Calvary Hospital.
Paul Cripple completed the album in 2024, shortly before he passed away on September 21, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.
